Katy Wells, a devoted crossing guard in Denham Springs, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday afternoon after a tragic collision on Hwy. 16 near Gray’s Creek Elementary School.
She was on duty, ensuring the safety of children, when a truck struck her at the crossing she had faithfully managed for decades.
Emergency responders arrived promptly, but despite their efforts, Katy did not survive the injuries sustained in the accident.
For nearly 40 years, Katy dedicated herself to the Livingston Parish school system and sheriff’s office, working at multiple schools including Gray’s Creek Elementary and Seventh Ward Elementary.

The driver involved, Darren Goudeau, 64, of Walker, was arrested and faces charges including vehicular homicide and DWI, with the investigation ongoing.
