Ed Scott Remembered After Fatal Midland Incident On June 12, 2026, That Also Injured 10 People

Ed Scott, a City of Midland employee, died on Friday, June 12, 2026, during a major public safety incident in Midland, Texas, that also injured 10 people.

City officials described Scott as a respected public servant whose work and community involvement left a lasting mark on colleagues, friends, and residents.

Scott worked closely with local and regional softball organizations and remained known as a devoted family member, caring spouse, loving parent, and active Midland community member.

Authorities identified Victor Mata Villarreal, 45, of Odessa, as the suspect, and Midland Mayor Lori Blong said officials found Villarreal deceased inside an abandoned veterinary clinic at about 12:30 p.m.

Midland Memorial Hospital received nine patients, while Medical Center Hospital in Odessa treated one additional patient.

The City of Midland asked the public and media to respect Scott’s family as they grieve, and memorial and funeral details will be announced later by family members.
