Cooper Deatherage of Brookings, South Dakota, Remembered for Hockey Leadership, School Spirit, and Community Impact

Cooper Deatherage, a Brookings, South Dakota native affectionately known as “Juice,” has died, according to public tributes and online memorial notices.

Cooper graduated from Brookings High School in 2025 and was preparing to attend South Dakota State University for education, personal growth, and continued community involvement.

Cooper spent more than a decade with the Brookings Rangers youth hockey program and later served as an assistant captain at the varsity level.

Friends, teammates, coaches, and classmates remembered Cooper for leadership, kindness, work ethic, and a positive presence on and off the ice.

Community members in Brookings and surrounding areas have shared tributes and organized support efforts and memorial fundraisers for the family.

A Celebration of Life service has been scheduled in the Brookings area, while further obituary and funeral service details will be announced later by family members.
