Barbara Krier And Steven Reed Remembered After Fatal Interstate 70 Crash In Wabaunsee County On June 5, 2026

Barbara Krier, 70, of Great Bend, and Steven Reed, 50, of Topeka, died Friday afternoon after a Kenworth construction truck crossed the grassy median on Interstate 70 in Wabaunsee County.

The crash happened shortly before 4 p.m. near mile marker 330.7, just west of Spring Creek Road, as their Buick Envision traveled westbound with a 7-year-old child in the back seat.

Authorities said Jason Webb, 45, of Cheboygan, Michigan, drove the eastbound truck before it entered the westbound lanes for reasons officials have not yet determined.

Emergency crews took the child to a Kansas City hospital with suspected serious injuries and transported Webb to a Topeka hospital with suspected minor injuries.

Families and local communities now mourn Krier and Reed, whose lives touched Great Bend, Topeka, and those who knew them personally.

Kansas Highway Patrol officials continue to review the crash, and family members will announce obituary and memorial service details later.
